Building the Dream: A Dual-Use Infrared and Steam Sauna using mostly recycled materials I had in my garage for years.
As a naturist, I’ve always felt an incredible connection to the simple pleasures that life has to offer—feeling the sun on my skin, the breeze in my hair, and enjoying nature in its purest form. But there’s one luxury I’ve always dreamt of adding to my naturist lifestyle: a proper sauna.
Over the years, I’ve made a few makeshift attempts—a homemade infrared sauna here, a steam contraption there—but nothing has ever come close to the real deal. Well, now, I’ve decided it’s time to build the ultimate version: a dual-use sauna that seamlessly transforms from infrared to steam in less than a minute. Yep, two saunas in one.
Saunas have always fascinated me, especially with their incredible health benefits—infrared saunas for deep tissue healing and relaxation, and steam saunas for detox and skin rejuvenation. The idea of combining both in one space, and enjoying it fully in the nude (as it should be), felt like a dream come true. Even better? This whole thing will be powered by my homemade solar installation.
Now, I’m no professional builder, but I like to think of myself as a resourceful naturist. Using recycled materials I’d stored in my garage for what feels like forever, I began constructing my masterpiece. Except for the new square infrared lights (the only thing I had to buy), I had everything I needed. Old timber beams, some leftover metal sheeting, and an array of odds and ends that were collecting dust are now coming together to create a cheap yet fully functional dual-use sauna.
The thought of my family and me enjoying the benefits of this unique space, completely in the buff, brings a smile to my face. We’ll sweat it out in the infrared mode after a long day or detox in the steam on a chilly evening. It’s more than just a sauna—it’s a retreat, a place for pure, uninterrupted relaxation where we can fully embrace the naturist way of life.
And the beauty of it? We’ll be doing all of this off the grid, powered by the sun itself. To me, that’s a perfect harmony—combining nature’s warmth with the healing powers of infrared and steam. A sanctuary, built by hand, to reconnect with the simplest pleasures, body and soul.
For any fellow naturists out there, whether you’re handy or not, I highly recommend taking on a project like this. It’s incredibly rewarding, not just because of the end result, but because of the process itself—using your hands, your creativity, and connecting with nature in the most intimate way. And of course, enjoying it the way nature intended: unclothed, unbothered, and unburdened.
What about you? Have you ever built something with your own two hands that enhanced your naturist lifestyle? Let me know your stories—I’m always keen to hear how others are blending nature and creativity into their everyday lives!
Stay nude, stay safe, have fun
