The Royal National Park: A Nude Hiker’s Dream with a Hidden Danger - 04/10/2023

The Royal National Park, located just south of Sydney, has long been one of my favourite spots for a nude hike. It’s an incredible stretch of nature, offering everything from rugged bushland to stunning coastal views. And if you’re up for the challenge, there’s a fantastic trail that takes you from the top of the park all the way down to Werrong Beach—a well-known clothes-optional beach. But be warned: this trail is no walk in the park! It’s a real workout, pushing your legs and lungs to the limit. The reward? The absolute freedom of hiking nude in one of Australia’s most beautiful natural environments.

Werrong Beach has always been a naturist haven, a secluded spot where you can strip off and enjoy the ocean without a second thought. The trail leading to it is just as special—perfect for those of us who like to hike nude and connect with nature along the way. The feeling of walking without clothes, with the sun on your back and the fresh coastal air filling your lungs, is truly unbeatable.

But, and this is a big but, the trail to Werrong Beach has recently become incredibly dangerous. After two years of heavy rainfall and a major landslide, it’s no longer the safe path it once was. The entire side of the hill before you reach the beach has dropped anywhere from 80cm to 15cm over a stretch of about 150 metres. The ground is unstable, cracked, and just waiting to collapse entirely.

I can’t stress this enough—if you’re planning to head to Werrong Beach, don’t. As much as I love the place and the trail, it’s simply not worth the risk. One wrong step could send you tumbling down the unstable hillside, and that’s if the whole thing doesn’t give way underfoot first. It’s a disaster waiting to happen, and venturing down that trail right now could very well put your life in danger.

It’s heartbreaking, really. Werrong Beach has always been a special spot for naturists, and the hike down to it was half the fun. But nature, with all its beauty, also has its dangers, and sometimes we have to respect that and wait for safer times. The Royal National Park remains a fantastic place for hiking, and there are plenty of other trails to explore, but as for Werrong, it’s best to stay away until things settle—if they ever do.

So, while the Royal National Park still offers plenty of opportunities for nude hiking, especially if you love a challenge, it’s crucial to heed the warnings and avoid areas that pose a serious risk. I’ve always believed that naturism is about being in harmony with nature, and part of that harmony is recognising when it’s not safe to push your limits. Werrong Beach will still be there when things calm down, but for now, it’s one trail to leave off your list.

Until then, enjoy the rest of the park, respect nature’s power, and as always, hike with care and awareness. There’s plenty of beauty to discover while keeping safety in mind. After all, the joy of naturism is about being free in nature—but also being smart about it

Stay nude, stay safe, have fun

Vince
