Clarifying Concerns from Venue Owners: Legalising Naturism Will Strengthen, Not Threaten, the Industry
Dear friends and partners in the naturist and nudist community,
We’ve recently received messages from some naturist and clothing-optional venue owners who’ve raised thoughtful concerns about NaturismRE’s legislative efforts – particularly around the potential legalisation of public nudity and clothing-optional freedom in Australia.
The concern is understandable:
“If nudism and naturism become legally permitted in public spaces, will people still come to venues? Will businesses suffer?”
This is a fair question – and one we take seriously.
Reality From Around the World
In countries and regions where public nudity is legally protected or widely accepted – such as Germany, Spain, France, and Scandinavia – the outcome has been growth, not decline:
More venues have opened, not closed.
Membership and attendance have increased.
Greater public awareness has brought newcomers into the lifestyle.
The presence of both public options and venue-based naturism has created a balanced, thriving ecosystem.
Public spaces may offer freedom, but venues offer safety, community, and comfort – especially for families, newcomers, older people, and international visitors.
Venues Will Always Play a Central Role
Naturist venues are the heartbeat of the lifestyle. They are spaces for connection, wellness, celebration, and education.
Even in regions with clothing-optional laws, people continue to actively seek out dedicated venues.
NRE Is Investing in the Future – With Venues at the Centre
If we believed that legalisation would undermine naturist venues, we certainly wouldn’t be investing in one ourselves.
NaturismRE is in the process of developing the Modriaty Clothing Optional Resort – a project with a projected investment exceeding A$60 million, designed to provide a world-class, eco-conscious, inclusive destination.
We wouldn’t be undertaking such a project if we thought our advocacy would harm the industry.
Quite the opposite – we believe the future of naturism will depend on strong, well-prepared venues, and we’re helping shape that future now.
Setting Standards for a Thriving, Global-Friendly Industry
As part of our long-term strategy, NRE is developing a set of industry standards to help prepare Australian venues to welcome a growing wave of international naturist tourism.
These standards will:
Ensure quality, consistency, and safety for guests
Reflect ethical and inclusive values aligned with modern naturism
Guide venues in best practices, staff training, accessibility, and sustainability
Help position Australia as a trusted, high-standard naturist destination
We’re not just advocating for change – we’re laying the groundwork for an industry that can benefit from that change.
NRE is on Your Side
NaturismRE is not your competitor.
We are your advocate, your ally, and your partner in building a stronger, safer, more vibrant naturist future in Australia.
We invite you to work with us as we:
